Tulbaghia natalensis - cream form

Plant type: Bulb

Tulbaghia natalensis is possibly the hardiest of all Tulbaghias. In spring it bears wonderfully fragrant flowers in with creamy tepals and a greenish-yellow corolla in the centre which emits a spicy almond fragrance particularly of an evening. This makes a good rock-garden subject and also a good container plant for a conservatory or cold greenhouse, living on the patio in summer. Water in spring & summer, but keep drier in winter. Grows 12" (30cm) high in flower. At the base there are semi-evergreen dusky narrow, fleshy leaves that ommit an oniony fragrance when crushed. Lovely in a terracotta container. Of South African origin (KwaZulu-Natal & Lesotho).
